Instructor Course

Course Description:

The American Heart Association's Instructor Course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in resuscitation courses. It focuses on how to present the material to a class, as well as the administrative responsibilities of instructors. The course itself is a one-day class, but certification is earned only after completion of the class as well as additional monitoring and observation periods (see below for Additional Requirements) The cost of the course is $350. This includes the cost of any necessary course manuals and materials. This course is offered annually the first week of June.

The ideal instructor candidate is:

  • Motivated to teach
  • Motivated to facilitate learning
  • Motivated to ensure that students acquire the skills necessary for successful course completion
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Views student assessment as a way to improve individual knowledge and skills

All prospective participants must:

  • Be currently certified through American Heart Association in the discipline being sought to instruct (Red Cross certification not accepted)
  • Complete an Instructor Candidate Application
  • Complete the Core Instructor Course CD-ROM (provided upon registration for class)
  • Have proof of alignment with a training center (see below for Alignment Information)

Additional requirements:

In addition to completing the one day Instructor Course, each instructor candidate must "observe" a class being taught by one of LGM's instructors. Candidates will teach solo up to two times while being monitored by an LGM instructor. If after two monitored classes the Instructor Trainer feels your skills are lacking or cannot be remediated, he/she can deny your certification card. Each candidate has 3 months from the date of the course to complete the required monitoring. Failure to do so makes their instructor course null and void.

Alignment information:

Alignment indicates that a Training Center (TC) will be taking responsibility for your teaching and maintaining your certification. This is also who you will be purchasing your AHA materials including cards for your classes. All instructors must be aligned with a TC. If wanting to align with LGM, please submit resume and business references for consideration. LGM offers a 3-month probationary alignment period with its instructor courses.

Designed for: Individuals needing to instruct others in resuscitation courses

Certification: 2 Years

Class Length: 8 hours

Cost/Person: Only $350
